Peterborough and District Football League round-up

Wittering have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Peterborough League Division Three table.

The league leaders were 5-1 away winners at Moulton Harrox Reserves on Saturday to extend their advantage over second-placed Stamford AFC Reserves who were without a game.

Jude Bloodworth blasted a hat-trick for the table-toppers with Jakub Komisarczyk also on target for Wittering who had Joe Serrano-Taylor red-carded.

Uppingham remain at the helm of the top flight table despite being without a game as both Stanground Cardea Sports and Crowland Town were held to away draws.

Having played out a draw at Thorney on the opening day of the season, with recent form considered, Bourne Town Reserves were rightly quietly confident they could go one better and take the points as they ran out 2-0 winners in the Division Two clash at the Abbey Lawn.

From the first minute, the Bourne lads played on the front foot as their energy levels and tempo was at its highest.

Luke Scampion, Matt Bills and Liam Bedford totally dominated the middle of the park, providing great service to Arron Pike, James Ferrow and Ryan Baxter in the forward positions.

A superb Pike opportunist effort rattled the post from 25 yards after just 10 minutes.

A great ball from Scampion found Bedford who moved with purpose down the middle of the pitch, subsequently putting the ball wide from distance.

The pressure soon paid off when the lively Pike was sent to the ground with a clumsy challenge in the penalty area and referee Reg Parker had no hesitation in awarding a penalty kick.

Bedford took the responsibility, stepped up and fired it over the bar.

The creation of chances continued and from a corner Ferrow from 20 yards connected sweetly to shoot narrowly over the bar.

The deadlock was deservedly broken after 40 minutes.

A neat passing move ended with Pike nestling the ball in the back of the net with a composed finish.

The second soon followed, on the stroke of half-time, as a sublime pass from Baxter played Ferrow through who confidently finished.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Thorney limited to very few chances.

The back four of Mike Hasler, Tom Ward, Sam Fuller and Alfie Ball were solid all game and more than a match for the isolated pressure.

Alfie Ball, one of the three Under 18s in the squad, started for the first time and played with confidence and composure all game.

His efficient distribution of passes and solid tackles was very noticeable in an outstanding performance.

Bedford nodded over from a Bills free kick as the former's performance deserved a goal but it wasn't to be on the day.

Substitutes Nathan Pearson, Sam Webster, Callum Beveridge, Ethan Hunt and Under 18 player Alexandru Pitigoi were all introduced.

Their energy and enthusiasm added to what came before, supporting the excellent game management in the second half.

It contributed to an outstanding team display on the day with high work rate, great movement off the ball which led to good goals and a solid defensive display with Ben Asplin in goal having very little to do.

Stamford Lions lost by the same margin at home to Park Farm Pumas Reserves while a solitary strike sent Oakham United Reserves to a home defeat against Leverington's second string.

Luke Cramp scored both of the goals for Stamford Bels Reserves in their 4-2 home reversal against YDP.

Ex-Wittering Premiair player-boss Sam Cayley was on target for the visitors along with former Blackstones striker Josh Hales who bagged a brace.

Stamford Lions Reserves were beaten 5-1 at Hampton Rangers in Division Four with Matthew Hedley hitting their goal while Wittering Reserves lost 2-1 at home to Nxt Gen

Jack Milojevic netted twice for Ketton Sports Black in their 6-2 away loss at Peterborough Rangers Reserves.
