Stamford AFC have arranged a pre-season friendly with Doncaster Rovers

Stamford have secured a high-profile pre-season friendly with League Two champions Doncaster Rovers.

Grant McCann's side are due to visit the Zeeco Stadium on Saturday, July 12, with a noon kick-off.

It will be the second pre-season visit in successive campaigns for Doncaster who ran out 4-0 winners in a 120-minute match between the two sides last year.

Stamford will start their pre-season preparations with a match against United Counties League Premier Division North neighbours Blackstones on Saturday, July 5.

Stones secured promotion back to step five of the non-league pyramid last season and they also have matches arranged against AFC Rushden & Diamonds (home, Wednesday, July 9), FC Peterborough (away, Saturday, July 12), Heacham Town (home, Wednesday, July 16), Rothwell Corinthians (away, Saturday, July 19).

Stamford duo Jon Challinor and Michael Frew have both received call-ups to the England Seniors' World Cup squad.

Challinor was part of the side which won the competition last year and will be joined by team-mate Frew as England look to defend their title.

The squad flew out to Thailand this week with matches kicking off on Sunday.
