The former Bourne Academy pupil had a number of offers in both America and the United Kingdom, including Loughborough.

However, after a family trip to the states last summer visiting colleges in Colorado, Wyoming, California and Texas, Donovan fell in love with the country and the amazing facilities and lifestyle in every place visited.

His father Lewis - who went to Colorado State University - said: "We are very proud of what Donovan has achieved and he is going out to the States on a full athletic scholarship.

"Adams State is the best fit for him with a great location in Alamosa, Colorado, and great facilities and coaching."

Donovan will be flying out in August to start his next chapter at the highest level.

The Adams State University recently won the indoor national track and field title in Virginia as its status as a DII college.
