Blackstones entertain Deeping Rangers in a United Counties Leaguie derby

Blackstones and Deeping Rangers will both go into Saturday's derby duel aiming to build momentum after being buoyed by excellent results last weekend.

The two sides meet at the SBJ Stadium (3pm) in an intriguing United Counties League Premier Division North clash.

Stones ended a run of three successive league losses with a superb success over high-flying Kimberley Miners Welfare last weekend thanks to a second half goal from Will Bestwick.

Deeping also broke a similar losing streak with a solid three-goal home victory over Heanor Town to set both sides up for the derby duel.

It is their second league meeting of the season after a goalless draw at the Haydon Whitham Stadium where Stones created the better chances in the stalemate.

Joint Blackstones manager Jon Harrison said: "It's a big game for us on Saturday and we're really looking forward to it.

"Brett (Whaley, Deeping manager) has done a good job to get them where they are now compared to last season so we know it will be a tough game.

"We should have beaten Deeping at their place though and they felt that they were probably lucky to get a point.

"We just didn't get the goal last time so hopefully we can produce a similar performance and put some of our chances away early.

"It's our turn to be at home so hopefully that will make the difference, although both teams got good results at the weekend so we're both going into it with a bit of confidence."

Clarets boss Whaley has challenged his side to start stringing a run of results together as they look to build on Saturday's success.

Whaley said: "We know quite a bit about Blackstones and they got a brilliant result on Saturday against a very good Kimberley side.

"We do know what to expect from them but they've had an excellent start to the season to be where they are after getting promoted. When they're at it, they're a very good side.

"We can't concentrate too much on the opposition though because when we've lost games this season it's because we've been poor.

"If we're good and we don't win the game then you can kind of take that but that hasn't been the case this season.

"It's a derby between two sides who are reasonably close together in the table and both will want to take momentum from their results on Saturday.

"It's now about putting together a couple of results back-to-back for us."

Bourne Town take their five-match unbeaten run to Lichfield City in the Northern Premier League on Saturday.

The Wakes remain in the Midlands Division relegation zone despite an upturn in fortunes in recent weeks.

They now face a crucial spell of games with matches against Rugby Town, Loughborough Students and Boldmere St Michael following the weekend's trip.

Co-manager Michael Goode said: "Lichfield have moved up into the play-off places so it will be a tough game.

"The next four matches will be really important to us and, although we won't be quite at the halfway stage when they're done, if we could stay unbeaten then it would send us into the Christmas period on a good platform."

Bourne are hoping to be boosted by the return of the influential trio of Zac Allen, Richard Jones and Connor Furey.

Stamford travel to Stourbridge still looking for their first win of the Southern League Premier Division Central campaign.
