Kayna Penrose-Toms and Sophie Cartwright of Stamford Rugby Club have been selected for the England Deaf team

Two members of the treble-winning Stamford Women rugby team will be representing England over the coming week.

Kayna Penrose-Toms and Sophie Cartwright will fly off with England Deaf Rugby to take part in a four-match series against their South African counterparts.

The duo have been training with the England squad for the past six months and have both pulled on the national shirt in a friendly match against Bedford Blues Women in April.

This will be both players' first tour of any type and they are eagerly looking forward to getting their boots on in the rainbow nation.

Kayna said: "I am so proud to represent both my country and my club in South Africa and am looking forward to a number of tough matches."

Sophie added: "This will be my first ever tour and, having only played the game for two years, I am so pleased to be given the chance to play for England."

Stamford chairman Jai Nairn felt their selection was 'icing on the cake' of a successful era for the club's senior section.

He commented: "As a club we are so proud of Kayna and Sophie and their achievement to play for their country.

"Our senior section at the club has been really impressive over the past few years and having two of them play for their country is the icing on the cake."

England Deaf Rugby Women will be playing four matches, two of which are on Saturday and Sunday with the others on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
