Oakham Bowls Club member Colin Wagstaff selected for the Disabled World Championships in South Africa
A member of Oakham Bowls Club has been overwhelmed by the support for his fundraising drive after being selected to play for England.
Colin Wagstaff, from Castle Bytham, has been chosen for the international side who are taking part in the 2024 Disabled World Championships in South Africa.
The event is fully self-funding so Colin has created a GoFundMe page which has been well supported by both Oakham and Melton clubs where he is also a member.
Colin is about halfway towards his £3,000 target with further fundraising events planned for the rest of the year.
He commented: "I have been blown away by the support and encouragement that I have received from everyone.
"The bowls clubs have very generously raised money or are planning to raise some to help achieve this amazing opportunity."
Colin joined Oakham at the beginning of the year and won the mixed pairs competition with partner Jenny Owen.
He won his first England international cap at the start of September in the match against Scotland at Ayr which he described as a very proud moment and a dream come true.
Colin is also the lead ambassador for Disability Bowls England, an active together champion and a level one bowls coach.
