Blackstones beat Dunkirk in the United Counties League

Blackstones blasted six goals for the first time this season as they dispatched Dunkirk in Saturday's United Counties League Division One clash.

The Stamford side ran out 6-1 away winners to record a fifth successive league win and maintain their place in the play-off spots.

The victory was the second highest of the three-season management tenure of Jon Harrison and Ryan Wood following their six-goal home success over Leicester St Andrews in January of last year.

Harrison said: "Everything is really good at the moment and it's all down to the lads.

"Everyone is playing well and the lads who have got the shirts are working their hardest to keep them while the ones who are trying to take them are doing everything that can to do that.

"There is healthy competition throughout the squad and we've got ourselves into a position where we've put a run together to move up the table.

"The lads have got belief in themselves and believe that they can make the play-offs which is really good.

"They've done such a good job that we're now one of the sides being chased which is a lot better position to be in."

Two goals inside the opening 20 minutes had given Stones control of the contest on Saturday.

Will Bestwick saw a 10th minute drive take a deflection to beat the home goalkeeper before Nathan Rudman slotted home a first-time finish to double the advantage.

Rudman headed wide from close range shortly after which would have put the contest beyond Dunkirk who then kept their hopes alive when Lewis Wilcox halved the deficit early in the second half.

The goal shook Stones back into life and they added a third goal in the 66th minute through a close range finish from Johan Coughlan who had won his appeal against a sending off the previous weekend following a case of mistaken identity.

Substitute Matt Walker then made it four with 15 minutes remaining with a first-time finish from a cross.

Coughlan scored his second and Stones' fifth three minutes later after beating the home keeper in a one-on-one with a low finish.

The win was then wrapped up in injury-time by substitute Alfie Ferguson with a first-time shot into the bottom corner.

It means Stones have won eight of their last nine league games to keep their grip on fourth spot in the league table.

Stones travel to Bourne Town on Wednesday night in the semi-final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy before returning to league action on Saturday with a home match against Rainworth.
