Stamford AFC draw with Royston Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central
An injury time equaliser prevented Stamford from securing all three points at Royston Town on Saturday.
The Daniels had looked like heading for victory in the Southern League Premier Division Central clash when Ashton Offler gave them the lead 10 minutes into the second half.
However, Stamford had skipper Jack Duffy sent off in stoppage time after collecting a second caution before Harvey Beckett bagged a last-gasp leveller for the Crows.
There were three changes from the Stamford side that drew with St Ives the previous week as Richard Gregory, George Hobbins and Offler came in for Joe Burgess, Tendai Chitiza and Cosmos Matwasa.
The Daniels started on the front foot and Kai Tonge had a shot after Gregory flicked the ball on but his effort was easily saved by the home keeper.
Charlie Marzano then unleashed a shot from inside the penalty area but Jamie Head was able to push the ball away for a corner.
This was followed by a Gregory effort which was deflected over when he met a corner from Connor Bartle.
Stamford were not making their dominance in the final third pay and the home side looked to capitalise.
Jesse Akubuine fired a shot over the bar of Tom Jackson’s goal to serve as a reminder to the Daniels.
The Daniels were forced into a change just after the half-hour mark when Gregory picked up an injury and he was replaced by Chitiza.
As the game approached half-time, Duffy released Lee Shaw down the left and his cross found Chitiza unmarked but, as he took aim at the goal, Oliver Reeve appeared to block and clear it away from danger.
Stamford continued to press after the break and Bartle had a shot which was saved by Head.
The Daniels finally made the breakthrough on 55 minutes as a corner from the left from Bartle found Offler at the back post and he rose highest to head the ball into the net.
Stamford looked for a second and Marzano had a shot which cannoned off the crossbar with Head beaten.
The Daniels struck the woodwork again as a Bartle throw found Tonge and he rifled a shot which came off the crossbar.
As the game reached the final stages, the match became fractious as Duffy and Adam Murray clashed and the referee issued both players with yellow cards.
Unfortunately, as the game was in injury time, Duffy went for a tackle which the referee deemed harsh enough for a second yellow and the Daniels captain was given his marching orders.
From the resultant free kick, the ball was delivered into the area and the Daniels thought they had cleared their lines, but the ball cannoned off Beckett and flew into the net.
The home side laid siege to the Daniels goal trying to grab an undeserved winner but the Daniels back line held firm.
Stamford are back in league action tonight (Tuesday) when they travel to Biggleswade Town.
