Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League round-up
Langtoft have begun their Stamford and Rutland League season with a comprehensive victory at Braunston A.
It was an enjoyable match despite the 30-3 scoreline, with both Andrew Horsey and Frank Had picking up points against the strong Langtoft team.
The visiting trio of Steve Smith, Denise Jacobi and Chase Burgess each earned nine individual points while conceding just one to begin their own season's confidently.
Horsey also played for the Braunston club's B team against early pacesetters Uffington Archway and provided a late scare by winning the first two ends of his final singles match against Rod Goss.
The Uffington skipper recovered, however, and, together with Dipak Kuchhadia and the returning Ramone Vara, carded a 30-2 victory.
Harringworth hosted Stamford Free Church and secured a 28-9 win.
The evening began well for the visitors with Stuart Menzies earning three points in the first match, but Harringworth’s Dave Harvey was dominant in his three matches and David Reed also remained unbeaten.
Graeme McNaughton recovered from his early reverse to earn seven points for Harringworth as well.
For Free Church, both Menzies and Adrian Bradley earned four points and debutant Damon Valero another.
MTTG faced tricky opponents in Bourne B but managed a 21-15 win.
Both Leigh Ware and Andy Goodacre remained unbeaten in their matches for MTTG, but Bourne’s Dariusz Kwiatkowski and Phil James each took Ware to a fifth game decider.
Kwiatkowski also won an end against Goodacre to gain further confidence for the season ahead. The final doubles was also competitive with MTTG winning it 3-1.
