Athletes Sean O’Donnell and Harry Hewitt are thriving on the international stage

Stamford sprinter Sean O'Donnell has ended his athletics season on a high.

O'Donnell took first place in the 100m when competing at Grangemouth over the weekend in the Scottish Under 17 Championships.

He was representing the Irish national team and his success followed his victories at both the Dublin and Irish Championships at Under 17 level earlier in the year.

Former Bourne Grammar School pupil Harry Hewitt has been chosen for the England Under 20s team.

He featured in the Home Counties International at the Thames Valley track near Windsor on Sunday.

The 19-year-old - who also attended St George's Primary School in Stamford - finished in fifth place in the 1,500 metres event after returning a time of 4mins 04secs.

It was below his personal best of 3.45.09 which Harry - who is studying geography at the University of Leeds - set in Manchester at the end of May.

He has also lowered his 800 metres and 3,000 metres personal bests to 1.51 and 8.17 respectively this season.

His best 1,500m time - which is also an all-time Lincolnshire Under 20 record - did rank him third in the country at his age group at one point before he slipped back to sixth spot.

He is now finishing his track campaign ready to put in the miles back at university in Leeds to stand him in good stead for next season.
