Stamford AFC draw with Bishop’s Stortford in the Southern League Premier Division Central
Stamford battled back from two goals down to earn a share of the spoils at Bishop's Stortford on Saturday.
The Daniels had found themselves trailing at half-time in the Southern League Premier Division Central clash to goals from Jack Roberts and Bradley Russell.
However, efforts from half-time substitutes Tom Siddons and Tobias Liversidge secured a point and maintained table-topping Stamford's unbeaten start to the season.
They had kept the same starting line-up which had beaten Stourbridge the previous weekend and they had to repel a flurry of early raids from the Blues who had been relegated from the National League North last season.
Stamford goalkeeper Tom Jackson made a smart stop to deny Kian Harness before the Daniels fell behind in the 26th minute.
Cole Dasilva's free-kick was guided into the path of Roberts who steered his finish past Jackson at the near post.
The home side's lead was then doubled three minutes later when Russell latched onto Charlie Castle's through ball and slotted his finish into the net.
Jackson again did well to deny the Blues a third goal before the break where manager Graham Drury introduced both Siddons and Liversidge.
Jackson excelled early in the second half with a superb stop at full stretch to keep out Castle's effort that was destined for the top corner.
It was to prove another crucial stop from the in-form Stamford goalkeeper as the Daniels halved the deficit two minutes later.
Liversidge cut in from the left before unleashing a strike that took a deflection to loop into the far corner of the home net.
Jackson continued to keep the Blues at bay as Harness tried his luck from distance before Stamford equalised just past the hour mark.
Siddons this time shot from the right-hand side of the penalty area and his effort took another deflection before nestling in the net.
The momentum was now with Stamford and James Blunden headed wide from a corner while Jack Duffy saw a shot saved by home goalkeeper Charlie Binns
Liversidge went down in the area under a challenge from goalkeeper Binns but Stamford's penalty appeals were waved away with the attacker being booked for simulation.
Jackson saved a fierce strike from Harness at the second attempt while Stamford came close to snatching the win in injury-time only for Rob Morgan's header to be cleared off the line by Luke Warner-Eley.
Stamford return to action at the Zeeco Stadium on Monday when they host Biggleswade Town (3pm).
