Stamford Rugby Club have been crowned Counties 1 Midlands East (South) champions
Stamford Rugby Club are determined to celebrate their championship success in style this weekend.
The purple, black and whites were confirmed as winners of the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) title last Saturday despite being without a game.
Second-placed Vipers - who Stamford had beaten the previous weekend in a table-topping tussle - lost 20-5 away at Bugbrooke.
It left the Leicester club 23 points adrift of Stamford with just four league matches of the campaign remaining.
Stamford will now take to the Hambleton Road pitch on Saturday as champions for their home match with Stockwood Park (3pm).
And director of rugby Matt Albinson is determined that his side will put on a performance worthy of their status.
He said: "The lads are buzzing to put on a show for everyone.
"We want to thank our amazing supporters and club volunteers who have been our resilience and extra motivation on the field when required and our laughter and friendship off it.
"We want everyone to come down and be part of history as the club will be bouncing."
Stamford have won 16 of their 18 league games so far this season.
They were 24-36 winners over Stockwood Park in their first meeting of the season in Bedfordshire in November.
Stamford go into Saturday's clash looking to pass the 100-point mark for the league season.
They have put together five straight bonus points wins since the turn of the year, scoring 175 points and conceding only 48 in the process.
That has helped cement a return for next season to level six of the English Rugby pyramid - Regional Two East - after a 29-year wait.
The match is part of four games being played at Hambleton Road over the weekend.
The Colts are in action tonight (Friday) under the lights as they take on Southwell looking to continue their recent form, having returned two strong away wins at Melton (13-14) and Grimsby (5-48).
The men's second team kick-off their game at 1.30pm on Saturday as they look to follow up an hugely impressive 31-0 away win at Kettering last weekend.
The women then have a rearranged league game against Ipswich on Sunday (2pm) where they will be boosted by the inclusion of Sophie Cartwright and Kayna Penrose-Toms following their experience of international rugby last weekend.
The duo donned the Red Roses shirt once again and started the match for England Deaf Women's Rugby in a tense showdown against Jamaica.
The fixture took place at Grasshoppers RFC in London and was a very hard, physical and fast game of rugby played by two strong teams.
England were trailing going into the last quarter of the match but eventually pulled it around and won the match 19-17.
While neither were on the score sheet, both Sophie and Kayna were credited with a large number of assists and also delivered fierce tackling throughout the match.
