Stamford AFC beat Bromsgrove Sporting in the Southern League Premier Division Central

Stamford registered their first win in four league and cup games as they held off Bromsgrove Sporting at the Zeeco Stadium on Saturday.

Three first half goals were enough to secure victory but the Daniels had to endure a spirited comeback from the West Midlands side in the Southern League Premier Division Central clash.

Manager Graham Drury made one change from the defeat to Bedford Town with Lee Shaw starting in place of the injured Harry Vince.

The opening exchanges lacked any goalmouth action but this changed on 14 minutes when Will Glennon had a turn and shot which Charles Price in the Bromsgrove goal was able to parry.

Stamford opened the scoring when Richard Gregory flicked the ball onto Shaw and his shot took a deflection and wrong-footed Price in the visiting goal.

Bromsgrove almost grabbed an equaliser a few minutes later when a poor back pass let in Charles Wragg but he fired wide of the goal while Shay Palmer was also off target with an effort for the visitors.

The Daniels doubled their lead on 34 minutes when Rob Morgan found Connor Bartle and his long-range effort took a deflection as it sailed into the net.

Stamford made it three on 37 minutes when a corner from Bartle found James Blunden and the Daniels centre half powered a header into the net.

Bromsgrove got themselves a lifeline on 40 minutes when they were awarded a penalty.

James Meddows stepped up and, although Tom Jackson went the right way, he could not prevent the visitors getting a goal back.

Stamford had chances to increase their lead after the break, in particular when Tendai Chitiza fired wide after being set up by Shaw.

Bromsgrove got themselves a second goal on 64 minutes when Meddows crossed the ball from the left and, although Jackson got his hand to it, it only fell to Carter Lycett who scored from close range.

The visitors were in the ascendancy now and Wragg had a chance to level but his shot was straight at Jackson.

Bromsgrove were reduced to 10 men on 87 minutes when substitute Harry Crook was given a straight red card.

Two members of the Bromsgrove coaching team were also given red cards for their comments as Stamford managed to hang on for the remaining minutes to secure victory.

The Daniels are back in action at the Zeeco Stadium on Tuesday night when they host St Ives.

They have signed midfielder George Hobbins from United Counties League Premier Division North side Skegness Town.
