Stamford lose New Year’s Day derby at King’s Lynn
Stamford AFC’s New Year celebrations were dampened by a Daniels old boy on Thursday when substitute Gregg Smith scored the only goal of the game for King’s Lynn Town.
Smith scored with his first touch of the game after coming off the bench, giving the Linnets the lead in the 60th minute.
And the home side managed to hold on for all three points in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League tie in front of a crowd of more than 500.
Once again new signing Josh Moreman was the man who looked most likely for the Daniels, twice going close in the second half.
There was little to split the sides in the first half; King’s Lynn’s Michael Frew had the best effort of the first half but could not break the deadlock.
Shortly after the break Moreman fired wide of the mark through a crowd of players and after Smith gave the home side the lead at the Walks Stadium, Moreman had a second chance to send Stamford home with at least a point but the attack came to nothing.
Jordan Smith had chances for the Daniels as well but with star striker Ryan Robbins still unavailable through injury Stamford are lacking a bit of bite up front.
