Blackstones face Clay Cross Town in the United Counties League

Blackstones return home on Saturday to face a tough high-flying test after three difficult away trips.

The Stamford side host play-off rivals Clay Cross Town in a United Counties League Division One clash at the Torney Limited Stadium.

Their Chesterfield visitors are two places above Stones in the league table and were 2-0 winners at Lincoln Road last month in the League KO Cup clash between the two sides.

The match pits one of the best defensive records in the division against one of the league's highest scorers.

Stones have shipped just 11 goals in their 13 league games this season and will face a Clay Cross side who have netted 36 times in the same number of matches.

Top scorer Ahmed Tahar is the division's leading marksman with 17 goals while team-mate Reece Clegg is second after netting 13 times.

Stones go into the contest after a hard-fought 1-1 away draw at 10th-placed Radford on Saturday.

Having won at Pinxton the previous weekend and then progressed in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy last Tuesday night, it capped a good return from three difficult away trips despite the double blow of two player departures to higher level teams.

Full-back Kyle Rowell has moved to Bourne Town while striker Scott Waumsley has joined Deeping Rangers.

Frontman Nathan Rudman has pledged his commitment to Stones despite interest from other clubs while Alfie Ferguson has also returned to the playing ranks.

Ferguson came on for the second half of Saturday's match where Stones had fallen behind early on.

Jevin Seaton gave the hosts a 10th minute lead but Stones struck back to level through Cameron Harris on the stroke of half-time.

The hosts had Travis Munn sent off just past the hour mark but it then became 10 players apiece when Eddie Grunsteins was dismissed six minutes later.

The winning goal eluded both sides to leave Stones in sixth spot and outside the play-off places on goal difference ahead of Saturday's vital home match.

Stones are running two new initiatives in a bid to boost their home crowds this season.

Season ticket holders from Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Peterborough United, Stamford and Bourne can gain entry this weekend for £3.

A community ticket programme has also been introduced where two or three streets surrounding the ground will be provided with flyers to give free entry for two adults and children.

Each child attending will also be given a raffle ticket to have the chance of winning a football.

Stones have been drawn at home to United Counties League Premier Division North side Skegness Town in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy. The match will be played on Wednesday, November 20.
