Blackstones beat Skegness Town in the quarter-finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy

A superb performance helped Blackstones book their place in the semi-final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy on Wednesday night.

The Stamford side defeated higher level Skegness Town 3-0 in their quarter-final clash at the Torney Limited Stadium.

They had to absorb some early pressure from their United Counties League Premier Division North visitors before breaking the deadlock through Josh Barrett.

It gave Stones the advantage at the interval which they doubled in the second half when Harry Peasgood turned home a dangerously delivered free-kick from Cameron Harris.

Goalkeeper Max Peverell then produced a couple of crucial saves to deny the Lilywhites a way back into the contest.

Stones then sealed their success when Will Bestwick's set piece picked out Eddie Thorpe who rifled home an emphatic finish.

Stones now join Lincoln United and Brigg Town in the last four with Pinchbeck and Bourne Town still to play their quarter-final after it was postponed this week.

They return to Division One action on Saturday with a home match against Rainworth Miners Welfare where Stones will be hoping to serve up more entertainment for their fans.

The last four league games have produced 22 goals with Stones now four points away from the play-off places.

They played out a 2-2 draw with Stapleford Town last Saturday where a much improved second half performance helped Stones secure a share of the spoils.

They had found themselves trailing by two goals at half-time in the Division One contest at the Torney Limited Stadium.

However, they hit back after the break with two goals in five minutes from Harry Peasgood and Nathan Rudman to ensure the honours ended even.

Stones had struggled to assert any authority on the game in the opening stages of the match despite Eddie Thorpe seeing a free-kick saved by the Stapleford goalkeeper.

They then fell behind in the 34th minute when James Hales rose above the home defence to head in the opening goal.

The visitors then doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when a deep cross was headed back into the centre of the goal for David Olatomide to convert.

Stones brought on both Louie Venni and Eddie Grunsteins at the interval and had halved the deficit within 10 minutes of the restart as Peasgood turned home a goalbound effort from Thorpe.

The equaliser then arrived five minutes later as Rudman continued his rich vein of scoring when he held off a challenge before finding the bottom corner of the Stapleford net.

A superb save from Max Peverell prevented Stapleford from regaining the lead while Johan Coughlan sent over a series of dangerous crosses for the home side but the finishing touch proved elusive for Stones.
