Josh Randall scores an injury time winner as Deeping Rangers beat Blackstones
Super-sub Josh Randall rifled home an injury-time winner to bring derby delight for Deeping Rangers as they beat Blackstones on Saturday.
Randall had already won the second half penalty which saw Harvey Thorne convert to cancel out Cal Davies' opener for the Stamford side.
He then went on a strong run in stoppage time before firing home a fine finish into the far corner of the Blackstones net to secure back-to-back wins for the Clarets in the United Counties League Premier Division North.
It earned a deserved success for Deeping who had shaded the derby duel against their near neighbours who finished the match with 10 men after the second half dismissal of substitute Kofi Gonsalves who collected two quick cautions after his introduction.
Both sides had gone into the clash after excellent wins last season but it was Deeping who started the stronger of the two teams with Bailey Baker driving an early shot just wide with home goalkeeper Simon Dalton then denying Jacob Goodley.
Will Barnes blazed a good chance over after Ryan Cook had flicked Ben Greenacre's cross into his path while Goodley fired another shot wide of the home goal.
Deeping had been unable to make the most of their early dominance and Stones started to work their way into the contest.
Josh Barrett whipped a free-kick narrowly wide before doing well to create another opening for himself but he shot straight at Clarets custodian Aaron Butcher.
Will Bestwick was then brought down right on the edge of the Deeping penalty area but Eddie Thorpe dragged the resultant free-kick wide.
Stones then struck the opening goal as Nathan Rudman fended off defender Fin Henderson before playing in Davies who curled home a tidy finish to net against a Deeping side where he had started the campaign.
It was enough to give Stones the advantage at the break as Deeping's only other threat on the home goal saw Dalton do well to deny Baker with a sprawling stop.
The Clarets applied the early pressure after the break with Henderson hooking a shot over following a set piece before Thorne smashed a shot wide after Cook's free-kick had dropped invitingly into his path.
Randall was then introduced and, within three minutes of his arrival, had made an immediate impact by winning a penalty which Thorne converted to level the contest.
Callum Willimont and Shaun Archer both fired shots wide of the Deeping goal as Stones looked to respond to being pegged back.
However, their cause wasn't helped by Gonsalves picking up two bookings after being brought on and they were forced to play the rest of the game with 10 men.
It handed the initiative back to Deeping and they struck the winner in stoppage time through former Stones player Randall to net the win which moved them above their hosts and into eighth spot.
Deeping are without a midweek match but Stones will look to bounce back on Tuesday night with a tough trip to Grantham Town.
