Rutland League round-up




A superb opening stand between James Laud and Keyan Gace propel Burghley Park to victory in their first match of the Rutland League season on Sunday.

They defeated Peterborough side City by 25 runs in their Division One opener with Laud and Gace setting the scene for the success.

The duo put on 198 runs for the first wicket with Gace hitting 16 boundaries before falling four runs short of his century.

Laud passed the milestone to reach 103 before he was trapped leg before wicket as Burghley went on to make 317 all out.

Ben Silver added a further 51 runs before City were restricted to 292-9 from their 45 overs in reply with Gace and Laud both taking three wickets each.

Barnack began their top flight campaign with a 97-run home success over Oakham.

Asim Butt top-scored with 82 while Amir Munir made 38 as Barnack were bowled out for 264.

Qasim Mir and Ankur Dave were the pick of the Oakham attack with 4-54 and 3-31 respectively.

The Rutland side were then bowled out for 167 in reply as Ryan Lewis and Ben Southern both scored 29 with Tanveer Hussain taking 3-39 for Barnack.

Uppingham won by eight wickets at City 2nds in Division Two after dismissing their hosts for 177.

Stamford were 23-run winners in their Division Three derby with Ketton Sports.

Town totalled 247 after batting first with Alex Birch blasting 71 and Matthew Holland hitting 46.

Brett Whaley took four wickets for Sports who made 222-8 in reply.

Adam Warren - who had earlier taken three wickets - capped a fine all-round display by top-scoring with 71 while Brad Lucas made 52.

Shahbaz Mohammed and Sam Clarke both claimed three wickets for the successful Stamford side.

Bourne were beaten by 180 runs at Northampton Saints who made 330-9 after batting first.

Market Overton lost by 74 runs against United Sports in Division Four East.

The visitors made 290-8 after batting first with Ed Milner scoring 67 for Marko who were dismissed for 216 in reply.

Ufford Park 2nds went down by 138 runs against Royal Strikers in the same division.

The Peterborough side made 271-6 with Farhan Nadeen taking three wickets for Ufford who made 133-8 in reply with Salman Khan scoring 53.

Uffington 2nds suffered a 65-run away reversal at LGR in Division Four West.

Harry Bentley took four wickets with Finn Bray bagging a further three as LGR were bowled out for 193.

However, Uffington could only muster 128 in reply despite an unbeaten 56 from Matt Tyers.
