Leicestershire Cricket League round-up





More than 670 runs were scored at the Lime Kilns on Saturday as Oakham recorded their fourth successive victory in the Leicestershire League.

They defeated visiting Loughborough Town by five wickets after an epic run chase in the Premier Division clash.

Loughborough had posted a daunting 339-7 from their 50 overs after being put into bat by Oakham whose skipper Shaun Morris took three wickets.

Oakham lost Seb Smith early in their reply while fellow opener Joe Johnson fell for 24 to leave the hosts on 45-2.

Rob Taylor and Will Begy doubled that haul to move Oakham onto 90 before the latter was dismissed for 12.

Steve Flowers formed a strong partnership with Taylor which produced 64 runs for the fourth wicket until the former fell for 43 off just 25 balls.

Taylor had reached 69 when he was bowled by Myne Rana with Oakham on 178-5 which brought Ed Siddle to the crease to join Alex Anthony.

They formed a superb unbroken partnership of 162 which catapulted Oakham to an excellent victory.

Anthony thumped eight fours and five sixes in his 98 not out while Siddle struck nine boundaries in his undefeated 61 as Oakham passed their target with 16 balls remaining.

Uppingham Town saw their five-match winning run in Division One ended by a seven-wicket away loss at Loughborough 2nds.

Opener Jamie Dumford top-scored with 62 while James Cross added 46 as Uppingham were bowled out for 188.

A 127-run unbroken stand for the fourth wicket then took Loughborough to victory with Savan Desai following up his three wickets with a half-century.

Uppingham 2nds remain neck-and-neck with North Kilworth in the race for the Division Six East title.

They remained tied on 310 points after both pocketed maximum hauls on Saturday with Uppingham beating Blaby by four wickets.

Blaby were restricted to 140-9 with Harry Xox claiming an impressive 5-22 from his eight overs for Uppingham.

They needed less than 27 overs to pass their target with Kashif Munir (36), George Scott (32) and Tom Scott (34) their leading run-makers.

Market Overton earned a vital victory in their quest to move out of the bottom two after a four-wicket home win against Electricity Sports 3rds.

Mark Hudson led the Marko bowling attack with 5-29 from 10 terrific overs while Richard Cooper claimed 2-19 from an economical eight-over stint.

Nathan Adams and Ryan Thwaites then top-scored with 22 and 21 respectively as Marko secured the win inside 17 overs.

Oakham 3rds are also facing a fight for their Division Eight East survival as they remain at the foot of the table after a five-wicket loss at Bitteswell 2nds.

Will Stuart-Jones carried his bat throughout the 40 overs before finishing agonisingly close to his century on 99 not out as Oakham posted 205-8.

It was target that Bitteswell passed in the 32nd over as Jassim Navas plundered 14 fours and a six in his 75 not out.

Market Overton 2nds were beaten by 18 runs in their Division Nine East match at Blaby 2nds.

Charlie Watt had taken 3-16 as Blaby were bowled out for 133 but Marko could only manage 115 in reply despite George Watt top-scoring with 33.
