Open days planned in July to mark 50 years of Ketton Tennis Club
Celebrations are underway at Ketton Tennis Club as they mark 50 years of action on the court.
The club based at the Sports Centre in Pit Lane, Ketton is hosting two open evenings next month to mark the special occasion.
The sessions will run from 6pm to 8pm on July 15 and July 22, and will give a chance for potential new members to visit the club and learn more about memberships.
It will also allow potential new players to see the facilities including three high-quality courts, each carpeted with a sand base, surrounded by floodlights - all included in the annual subscription.
The club has come a long way from its origins having been established on a single, privately-owned court in the village. It has grown and flourished initially under the visionary leadership of chairman John Collier and then through progressive growth of the dedicated committee and thriving club membership over the years.
Ketton is made up of a series of teams each making good headway in the Huntington and Peterborough Leagues, particularly in the mixed and men’s sections.
The 1sts recently celebrated a resounding victory away to Hemingford near St Ives and a hard-fought draw at home against Deeping.
The club said: “We’re proud of all players, including Julia Martin, Benomi Marais, Tania Joyce, Patricia Beedell, Caroline Beaty, Caroline Stimson, Niall Wallington, Howard Jones, Chris Shaw, and Jim Wheeler.”
The mixed 2nds team has also had several successful matches including a home win against Papworth TC.
Players for the team include George Glassey, Ewan Edmunds, Steve Ferry, Vivienne Wilson, Helen Donnallan, Richard Joyce, and Tania Joyce.
The club also has a thriving junior section boasting a current register of around 70 young players who receive coaching on Sunday mornings from an LTA-qualified coach.
Individual coaching options are also possible at the club through the provider R2R Tennis, both in groups and individually for adults, teens and children.
People of all abilities are welcome to join the club on the two opening evening sessions, where refreshments will also be available. The postcode for the club is PE9 3SZ and they look forward to welcoming people to their friendly environment.
