Leicestershire League cricket round-up





Thomas Welch produced a sensational spell of bowling as Uppingham Town 3rds wrapped up a rapid win on Saturday.

Welch took 7-14 from 6.2 overs as Town bowled out Countesthorpe for 88 in their Division Nine East match in the Leicestershire League.

Charlie Burgess also claimed 3-11 before Uppingham wrapped up the win in the 14th over as Harry Cox finished on 55 not out.

Oakham 3rds lost by 50 runs in the same division to Rothley Park.

Magnus Robertson took 3-24 while Ankur Dave and John Morton both collected two wickets each as Rothley were dismissed for 139.

However, Oakham were bowled out for 89 in reply despite Robertson top-scoring with 30 and Owen Nutter making 21.

Market Overton 2nds were beaten by seven wickets in their home match with Houghton & Thurnby 3rds.

The Rutland side were bowled out for 102 after batting first with Houghton hitting the winning runs in the 20th over.

Oakham's first team started the second half of their Premier Division campaign with an impressive away win.

They were eight-wicket winners at fourth-placed Loughborough Town after a strong bowling display from the Rutland side.

Their hosts were dismissed for 129 with Ed Siddle and Joe Johnson taking 3-19 and 3-12 respectively for Oakham.

Johnson then led the charge to victory with an unbeaten 48 while Vivek Naker was 47 not out at the close after an unbroken 101-run partnership for the third wicket.

Uppingham Town tumbled down to fifth spot in a tightly-contested Division One table after a 96-run loss at second-placed Houghton & Thurnby.

In a match reduced to 24 overs due to the wet weather, Houghton hit 208-4 after batting first with Town totalling 112-9 in reply as Jamie Dumford top-scored with 28.

Oakham 2nds were derby winners in Division Four East after a six-wicket success against Ketton Sports at the Lime Kilns.

This contest was cut back to 35 overs and Sports made 202-9 after batting first with Ed Carver )64), Toby Coulson (40) and Harry Baker (30) their chief contributors.

Ben Southern took 4-52 and Mark Owen claimed 3-36 for Oakham who passed their target with 10 balls remaining.

Charles Gill top-scored with 66 while Albert Radford was unbeaten on 50 at the close. Mat Bird took two wickets for Sports.

Market Overton were unable to turn their fine form at the Burghley Sixes into a league victory as they lost by two wickets against Wigston Town in Division Five East.

Marko had reached the finals night of the popular competition for the first time in a decade before losing to Barnack in the last four match.

in Saturday's match which was reduced to 36 overs, they made 196-5 after batting first with Brian Makwana hitting 96 not out and Stewart Naylor adding 36.

Mark Hudson then took 3-39 while Sammy Linford and Ryan Thwaites picked up two wickets each but Wigston edged home with two balls to spare.

Uppingham 2nds' target was also passed in the final over as they lost by three wickets to Whetstone in Division Six East.

Town had made 157-7 from 28 overs after batting first with George Scott (45) and Lee Middleton (31no) their top scorers.

Kashif Munir claimed 3-29 in the Whetstone reply but the hosts secured the win with five balls remaining.

Wakerley & Barrowden were 34-run winners in their Division Eight East match with Dunton Bassett 2nds which was reduced to 21 overs.

Barrowden batted first and made 178-5 as Nick Farrer (59) and Jonny White (53) both scored half-centuries.

Farrer then claimed 3-35 while White took 2-21 as Dunton finished on 149-6 in reply.
