Rutland League cricket round-up




A convincing derby victory strengthened Barnack's bid to be crowned Rutland League champions on Sunday.

They beat Burghley Park by 117 runs and now hold a 54-point lead at the top of the table with just three Division One matches remaining.

Asim Butt was again in fine form with the bat as he made 77 to help Barnack post 240. Mohammed Raheel added 48 while Javad Ghani made 32.

Raiffe Headley took 3-18 from seven overs while Ahsan Azhar claimed 3-40 for Burghley who were then bowled out for 123 in reply.

Tanveer Hussain returned 4-31 while Ghani took 3-21 with Ben Potter Burghley's top scorer after making 33.

Second-placed City lost ground on the leaders after losing a rain-affected match at Uppingham by one wicket.

Scott Green and Thomas Welch had both taken three wickets as City were bowled out for 181 after batting first.

Uppingham were set a revised target of 146 due to the wet weather and they edged home thanks to the final pairing of Harvey Stafford and Sam Rees who both finished six not out.

Toby Rees had earlier made 41 and Sam Hodson hit 37 as Uppingham moved further clear of the danger zone.

Oakham were also winners in Division Two despite the wet weather threatening to wreck their game at leaders Long Sutton.

Angus Owen hit an unbeaten 70 while James Laud made 58 and fellow opener Olly Billington hit 45 with Magnus Robertson adding 38 as Oakham raced to 285-8 from their 45 overs.

Long Sutton were set a rain revised target of 152 from 24 overs and they fell six runs short as Ben Southern took 4-52 and Owen capped a fine personal performance with 3-35.

Uffington completed their match at Werrington 2nds but went down to a six-wicket away loss.

The villagers made 171-8 after batting first as Damien Herrick hit 57 not out and Liam Davies made 34.

Werrington wrapped up the win inside 27 overs though despite Steve Moody, Ben Jennings, Joe Charlton and Finn Bray all taking a wicket each.

Ketton Sports' home match with Ufford Park was abandoned due to the wet weather.

The Rutland side had been bowled out for 151 with Ufford on 68-4 when rain stopped play.

A quick-fire blast from Matt Bailey helped Uffington 2nds to a 24-run win against United Sports in Division Three.

Bailey thumped seven fours and four sixes in his 65 off just 34 balls as Uffington made 213-7 after batting first.

Jak Garner made 41 with the bat and his all-round exploits helped deliver the win as he took 4-35 to help bowl out the visitors for 189. Bailey also took 2-35 from six overs.

Stamford's position at the top of the Division Three table was strengthened as Kimbolton conceded their clash.

Ufford Park 2nds went down by seven wickets against Division Four East high-flyers Orton Park

Ryan Linney (24) and Jason Bloomfield (20) top-scored as Ufford made 120-8 from their 40 overs which Orton passed in less than half of the time.

Joe Morley made a terrific century as Stamford 2nds beat Market Overton by 141 runs in Division Two of the Grantham & Melton Association.

Morley thumped 18 fours and five sixes in his 137 as Stamford scored 272--8 from 40 overs. Opener Luke Toomey added 48 while James Townsin made 39.

Amelie Hull took 2-22 for Marko who made 131 in reply with opener Ed Milner top-scoring with 64 and Jack Adams adding 32.

Neil Williams rolled back the years to take 5-15 from eight overs for Stamford while Aidan Staunton proved good support with 4-30 from a similar stint.
