Bourne Town beat Boston Town in the United Counties League
Newly-promoted Bourne Town have moved into the play-off places in the Premier Division North of the United Counties League.
The Wakes took over fourth spot after a hard-fought 1-0 away win at Boston Town on Tuesday night.
Zac Allen's early goal was enough to secure the win for the Wakes who are now unbeaten in their last nine league and cup matches.
They broke the deadlock after just five minutes as the ball broke to Allen in the penalty area after he curled a composed finish into the bottom corner of the home net.
Wakes goalkeeper Dan Swan then had to get down smartly to deny Boston an equaliser before Zak Munton fired wide after a good work from full-back Martin Tudosa.
Munton curled another effort just past the far post after some neat skill in the area before Brad Gothard did well to block a fierce strike from the Poachers to ensure Bourne held their lead at the break.
Allen went close early in the second half with a header from Tudosa's cross before Munton had an effort deflected over the home crossbar.
Boston then came close to equalising as a free-kick clipped the Bourne crossbar before the rebound was driven wide.
Munton had a couple more efforts which were wide of the mark before a smart turn and shot from the hosts flashed over the Bourne crossbar as the Wakes maintained their unbeaten away record.
They travel to Ashby Ivanhoe on Saturday. The match is being played at Quorn with a 1pm kick-off.
The Wakes have been drawn away at Spartan South Midlands League Division side Long Buckby in the first round of the FA Vase. The tie will take place on Saturday, October 19.
