Jerry Green Dog Rescue announces relocation of Scunthorpe charity shop following ‘devastating’ burglary
A dog rescue charity has announced it will be moving one of its charity shops to a new and more secure location following a ‘devastating break-in’ late last year.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s Scunthorpe Charity Shop on Ravendale Street North fell victim to a burglary between the evening of Sunday, December 17, and the morning of Monday, December 18.
Not only was there significant damage caused to the property, but donation boxes were stolen from the charity, which also has a base in south Lincolnshire.
Despite masses of community support, the charity made the decision to move to Foundry Shopping Centre in town.
The new shop will benefit from CCTV coverage and an enclosed yard at the rear which is only accessible at specific times, increasing security measures and deterring potential future break-ins.
Joanne Findlay, head of retail at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “The safety and security of our premises are paramount, particularly for the well-being of our staff, volunteers, and the community we serve.
“While regrettable to leave our current location, this move is necessary to ensure the continued operation of our charity shops to support the welfare of dogs in need.”
Following the intrusion, contracting firms began offering their services free of charge to assist with essential repairs and donations were received from the public.
The charity thanked the community for the “incredible amount of support that was received during such a difficult time”.
Despite the challenges encountered last year, Jerry Green Dog Rescue remains committed to its mission of caring for dogs in need.
You can find the new shop at 9 Cole Street, with the opening date set to be announced in the coming weeks.
