Manton village holds open garden event for National Gardens Scheme

A village is to open up its gardens, big and small, this weekend for charity.

Five very different gardens will open for the National Garden Scheme (NGS) in Manton, on the south shore of Rutland Water, on Sunday (June 8) from 1pm to 5pm.

Manton Lodge boasts steeply sloping borders of perennials and roses, alongside wonderful views, while Shapinsay has mature trees, established borders and a stream linking numerous ponds.

Manor Barn opens to visitors for the first time and promises an abundantly planted sunken courtyard garden.

And there are two classic cottage gardens at 3 St Mary’s Road and at 22 Lyndon Road, which is overflowing with unusual plants.

Admission to all five is £7, with free entry for children. The NGS raises money for nursing and heath charities.
