Take One a Day photography project arrives at Lincoln’s Usher Gallery with an expanded collection
A photography project has come to a city’s gallery with an expanded collection.
The Take One a Day photo exhibition has made its return to Lincoln’s Usher Gallery for the summer until September 15.
Curated by Louth man Jason Baron, who is the former head of photography at Comic Relief and former creative head of photography at the BBC, the display has images by photographer Paul Gutherson and six-foot-high portraits by photographic artist Richard Ansett.
Paul, who is also from Louth, began taking one photo a day as part of his healing process after discovering a person who had committed suicide along the town’s canal in 2020.
It was on a stretch of the River Lud that Paul knew very well and had loved since childhood.
With the help of counselling, Paul wanted to reclaim the environment from a place of trauma and use creativity to restore the joy in his life.
Richard, whose portraits have been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in London, was inspired to respond to Paul’s project.
Last year, when the event was held at Spout Yard Park Gallery, almost 250 people came in six days.
Now, other creatives in the area have been given the opportunity to display their works including a painting, a sculpture, and poems by two different writers.
Alongside these, visitors are invited to share any creative work the project inspires in them by tagging @takeoneaday_photography on Instagram.
On the final week these will be printed and hung in the exhibition.
Take One a Day, which is part-funded by Arts Council England, can be viewed Thursday to Monday, 10am until 4pm.
