National Gardens Scheme opens Uppingham gardens during Feast Day in the Rutland town

Modern and traditional garden designs will be open to visitors for the first time during a town’s feast celebrations.

Coinciding with Uppingham Feast Day, three gardens will open on Sunday (June 15), from 1pm to 5pm, in the Rutland market town through the National Open Garden Scheme.

A hidden contemporary garden at 51-53 High Street East will open to visitors for the first time featuring striking raised beds, a tranquil rill water feature, repeat-flowering planting, and a topiary caterpillar hedge.

Promising seasonal colour, highlights include geums, David Austin roses, and rare species like euphorbia mellifera and verbena macdougalii.

The garden at 1 Pig Lane is also a first-time opening, having evolved over a two-year period.

It consists of raised borders, contained by sleepers, and wide gravelled walkways as well as raised vegetable beds and fruit trees.

The planting is mainly herbaceous with varied perennials, young ornamental trees and annuals.

Hillside, at 7 Stockerston Road, is a one-acre garden with terraces, patio and new rose planting, as well as a woodland walk and spring-fed pond.

Combined entry is £7, with free admission for children, and can be pre-booked online at https://ngs.org.uk/gardens/uppingham-gardens-le15/

Cash and card payments are also possible on the day, with all money raised going to nursing and healthcare charities.

Home-made teas will be served in Church Hall, next to Market Square, with refreshments in aid of Uppingham Women's Institute.
