An amateur dramatics group will raise money for a breast cancer charity to tie in with its upcoming production.

The play, by internationally acclaimed playwright Gail Young, revolves around a group of women attempting The MoonWalk, a nocturnal half-marathon charity event around London to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

“We see their journey as they prepare for the adventure and travel down from Cheshire,” explained director Michael Hughes.

“We learn along the way how the five friends, all at different stages of their lives - and fitness levels - are dealing with grief, love, motherhood and romance, or the lack of it.

“Strong friendships are formed, with a lot of laughs, some tears, a song or two and, most of all, a determination to help fight the battle against cancer.”

Footlights will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support through audience donations and a raffle in the interval.

‘Cheshire Cats’ runs at the Bourne Corn Exchange from Wednesday to Friday, June 4 to 6, with doors opening at 7pm for the 7.30pm performances.

Bourne Footlights have been entertaining playgoers for 34 years.

Actors and backstage crew are drawn from local amateurs, but performances are of a consistently high standard, showcasing considerable local talent.

“New members are always welcome, in both acting and non-acting roles, so come along, enjoy the show and see how you can get involved in the next one,” Michael added.

Tickets are £13 and available from The Bourne Bookshop (cash only), from www.bournecornexchange.com/ or on the door.
