Events across Stamford, Rutland, Bourne and the Deepings will celebrate the king’s coronation




A long weekend of events will celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

From individual street parties to record-breaking picnic attempts and family fun days, there is plenty going on to mark the occasion.

Friday, May 5

King’s Cliffe coronation celebration - 4.30pm colour fun run from the King’s Cliffe Active, village sign unveiling in Park Street by the pub, 5.30pm history boards unveiling, The Kobras playing at the Cross Keys, Hard 2 Please band at King’s Cliffe Ex-servicemens club

Art exhibition - by Welland Valley Arts Society, Stamford Arts Centre. Until May 13. Free entry, 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday.

Sculpture exhibition - works in stone and clay by John Crampin, Willoughby Memorial Trust Gallery, Morley’s Lane, Corby Glen. Free entry. Open midday to 5pm Tuesdays to Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays until May 10

Reflections of a Retired Schools Inspector – talk at 2pm, Oddfellows Hall, Church Street, Market Deeping. £3 includes afternoon tea. Book with June on 01775 722348

Saturday, May 6

Elsea Park Community Centre, Bourne - 11am, open to screen the coronation. Bar open and food available

Coronation reception - 7pm, Great Casterton church hall with free prosecco. A knitted crown will then be paraded to the beacon lighting at the crossroads for 8pm

Bourne Wellhead - time TBC, lighting of town beacon for coronation

Baston church - Decorated for the coronation. No charge but donations to church funds are invited

King’s Cliffe coronation celebration - 12pm coronation on big screen and cream teas at King’s Cliffe Ex-servicemens club, 3pm tug-of-war at the Cross Keys, 6pm Salmon and Dave band at the Cross Keys, 8pm Coronation Quiz at King’s Cliffe Ex-servicemens club

Sunday, May 7

Bourne Town Council coronation big lunch - North Street. 10am - 4pm. A variety of stalls and activities.

Coronation service - All Saints Church, Oakham. 10.30am followed by a parade to Cutts Close for the party in the park

Coronation party in the park - Cutts Close, Oakham. Midday onwards. Music, entertainment and food stalls

Coronation party - 12.30pm - 3.30pm, Christ Church, Green Lane, Stamford. Music, poetry, street art and free refreshments.

Family fun day - 1-5pm, Lawrence Park, Thurlby. Bring a picnic, blankets and chairs. Live music, vintage fair rides, cake stall, raffle, pinata, balloon arch photo booth and beat the goalie competition. Proceeds towards buying Tommy figures for the village.

Coronation fete - 1-6pm, behind The Crown at Great Casterton. Stalls, music, tombola and family entertainment. Admission £1 with free parking. Proceeds to Sue Ryder and the Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance

Coronation service of Thanksgiving - 11am, St Andrew’s Church, West Deeping

Coronation big lunch - midday onwards, The Red Lion, West Deeping. Bring a picnic. Tombola, games, tug of war, raffle, bouncy castle, music and screening of the coronation concert

Coronation lunch - 12.30pm, Careby, Aunby and Holywell village hall. Bring a picnic. Bar, raffle, cakes and ice creams on sale. Games in the paddock weather permitting.

Coronation picnic - midday to 6pm, Brudenell Playing Fields, Baston. Family games, food trucks, live music, local craft stalls, and a full bar.

King’s Cliffe coronation celebration - 10.30am church service followed by cake and fizz at 11.30am and a bring and share lunch at 12.30pm, village fete and fairground rides from 1pm, 5.30pm The One Eyed Cats band at the Cross Keys, Three Saints and a Dragon by the King’s Cliffe Players at Oak Lane Park, 8pm Coronation Bonanza Bingo at King’s Cliffe Ex-servicemens club

Baston church - Decorated for the coronation. Donations to church funds welcome. A special service at 10am and refreshments served 2pm to 4pm.

Stamford Garden and Food Fair - 10am - 4pm, Stamford Meadows. Garden, food, plant and homeware stalls. Free admission

Burrough Hall, Burrough on the Hill 2pm – 5pm. Open for the National Gardens Scheme. More details at https://ngs.org.uk/

Monday, May 8

Stamford Town Council is organising a 'Coronation Big Help Out' at the Recreation Ground from midday until 5pm with music and entertainment.

Clear out to help out car boot sale - 10am - 4pm, Rutland Showground, Oakham. Car boot sale, fair fides, refreshments and children's entertainment. Raising money for Citizens Advice, Rutland Foodbank and For Rutland.

Village photograph - 10am, St Andrew’s Church, West Deeping, followed by tower tours, May pole dancing, tug of war and rounders

Cream tea and coronation tree planting - 3pm, West Deeping village hall

Coronation family fun day - 10am - 2pm, The Deepings Library

Baston church - Decorated for the coronation. Donations to church funds welcome. Refreshments served 2pm to 4pm.

King’s Cliffe coronation celebration - 11am to 2pm open gardens, 12pm knockout pool and darts at the King’s Cliffe Ex-servicemens club, 1pm barrel race at the Cross Keys, 2pm to 4.30pm tea and heritage display at the village hall, 2pm children and family activities at the village hall and King’s Cliffe Ex-servicemens club and round the horne radio-type sketches by the King’s Cliffe players at the village hall

Tuesday, May 9

Enjoy music fit for a king performed by Rutland harpist Harriet Flather at Oakham Library at 2.30pm. Admission and refreshments are free.

Arts Society Stamford - 10.45am (seated by 10.30am), Stamford Arts Centre. Topic is “Albrecht Dürer”. Non-members are welcome to attend an introductory lecture for £5. More: www.theartssocietystamford.org.uk.

Introduction to breathwork - 6.30pm - 7.30pm, Preston Village Hall. An informative and practical mini-workshop to introduce you to some simple yet powerful breathing techniques which could improve your sleep, stress levels, health and wellbeing.
