Uppingham church to host Leicestershire Chorale concert featuring new works by Gareth Treseder
Concert-goers will hear five world premieres by an up-and-coming composer at a town church later this month.
Leicestershire Chorale will perform five new works by Welshman Gareth Treseder at St Peter and St Paul Parish Church, in Uppingham, on Saturday, March 29 (7.30pm start).
Gareth is fast gaining an international reputation, and is regularly commissioned to write works by leading choirs, his music being recorded by the BBC Singers and regularly played on Radio Three.
He started work on the five Passiontide carols towards the end of the national covid lockdowns and completed them last year.
Passiontide is two weeks during lent which commemorates the suffering of Jesus.
“Exploring and rehearsing the pieces with Leicestershire Chorale has been a profound experience and I’m certain the concert will be very moving,” he said.
Tom Williams, Leicestershire Chorale’s director, occasionally sings with Gareth, and had wanted to perform his works for some time.
“They are so new the scores haven’t even been formally published yet,” said Tom.
“They are beautiful, and we’re really looking forward to performing them.”
The performance, will also include works by the English Tudor composers Morley, Byrd, Tallis and Gibbons, and a short piece by King John VI of Portugal.
The choir will be accompanied by Nicholas Scott-Burt, who will also play two Bach organ Chorale Preludes.
Tickets are £15, or £12 for Leicestershire Chorale Friends, £10 for under 19s, and £5 for under 13s.
