What’s on at Tolethorpe outdoor theatre: A Monster Calls
A cast of talented actors are ready to perform on stage on some of the warmest evening s this year.
A Monster Calls will be performed tonight (Monday, July 29)m, Tuesday and Wednesday at Rutland Open Air Theatre at Tolethorpe Hall, home of the Stamford Shakespeare Company.
The play is an adaptation of a young adult novel by Patrick Ness which was made into a major feature film starring Liam Neeson and Sigourney Weaver before being adapted for the stage in 2018.
The cast, aged 16 to 22, was selected for the Theatre Makers production after a month of auditions, and they have now spent many hours rehearsing.

“It will be intensive and physically challenging, but incredibly rewarding,” said Mary Benzies, who has organised the production.
“We have assembled a brilliant creative team of directors, fight directors, set and costume designers who are working hard to make this the best Theatre Makers show yet.”
Mary added: “Last year our Theatre Makers company produced “Blue Stockings” to full houses and the reviews and feedback were incredible.
“We are aiming to do the same this year with A Monster Calls.
“It is not a very well-known play and may not seem like the obvious choice for the regular Tolethorpe audiences, but it is a beautiful and inspiring story that we are confident will touch everyone and appeal to everyone on some level.
“It is fundamentally a very human story.”
