Boston bird breeder promises to stay off the roads after second driving whilst disqualified conviction

A bird breeder who was caught driving whilst disqualified on two occasions has promised a court he won’t get behind the wheel again until his ban is over.

Brandon Carlon made the pledge to Boston magistrates when he found himself before them on Wednesday (March 12).

The 21-year-old said he didn’t know he had been disqualified when he was seen driving a Volkswagen Polo along West Street, Boston, on January 20.

He had been disqualified from driving in June last year and appeared in court for another driving whilst disqualified offence on February 19.

On that occasion he was fined £120 and disqualified for a further six months.

Defending Carlon, Mike Alexander pointed out this offence had, in fact, taken place a week before the second offence, for which he appeared in court last month.

“He indicated on that occasion he did not know he was disqualified and it’s the same on this occasion,” he said.

“They should have been dealt with together, but for some reason they couldn’t find this case in the system.”

Mr Alexander added that his client - who ‘never completed formal education’ and suffers from autism, ADHD and PTSD, was due to become a father and wanted to turn his life around, looking to make ends meet by breeding birds.

“He’s trying to make the best of his situation,” he added.

Carlon, of Puritan Way, Boston, admitted driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

Prosecutor Lottie Tyler told the court police recognised him as a disqualified driver when he was spotted driving at around 4pm on the day of the offence.

Carlon was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and banned from driving for five months, to run alongside his current disqualification.

Magistrates told Carlon they didn’t want to see him back before them for another driving offence, to which he responded ‘I promise’.
