Disqualified Boston driver got behind wheel thinking his ban was over

A disqualified driver returned to the roads because he thought his ban was over, a court was told.

Rodrigues Ferreira, 25, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance when he appeared before Boston magistrates on Wednesday (February 26).

Prosecutor Lottie Tyler told the court police were called after CCTV spotted a black BMW driving in Boston Market Place at 10am on August 18 last year.

Behind the wheel was Ferreira, who had been banned from driving on March 3

“In interview the defendant admitted he was driving and said he didn’t think he was disqualified at the time,” Ms Tyler continued.

“He said he thought his disqualification was over and didn’t have insurance saying he ‘just didn’t’.

“He said he bought the car for £350 from an unknown male. He said he bought and sold cars and couldn’t remember who he had got it from.”

Defending himself, Ferreira, of Fenside Road, Boston, told magistrates: “I’ve got nothing to say.”

He was disqualified from driving for four months, fined £120 for driving whilst disqualified and a further £120 for driving without insurance.

Ferreira - who told the court he has ‘no income’ - must also pay a £96 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
