Plans to build 142 affordable homes on site earmarked to become a marina unveiled for Boston
Plans to build 142 new affordable homes on a site earmarked to become a marina have been unveiled.
An unnamed local developer has submitted proposals to build the large development on land adjacent to Puritan Way in Boston.
Designs include green space which is planned to benefit the local community.
The large site was originally intended to become a marina but it was found to be an uneconomic project, that was changed to meet the demand for low-cost housing.
“The overall concept of the design/layout is the central landscaped area which will create a circular parkland area overlooked by existing new housing on the south and east,” the design statement read.
“It is noted that the security of overlooking the parkland is excellent as seen by the number of young children who now use the space with their friends.
“This public open space is accessible to all of the children in the local area not just those in the new houses.
“It creates a ‘village green’ situation with housing overlooking the green central play area.”
Boston currently has around 2,500 people on its affordable waiting list and with the reductions in housing completion in recent years, this figure is expected to rise even more.
Given the close proximity of other housing to the site, including the nearby Fenside Estate, the developer contends that the plans represent a logical extension to the built-up area of Boston.
All of the houses are reported to be two stories high, with the plans specifying a total of 16 one-bedroom units, 80 two-bedroom units, 37 three-bedroom units, and nine four-bedroom units.
This of course isn’t the only major housing development coming to Boston though, as plans to build 102 new homes on White House Lane were also submitted to the council in March.
