Plans to convert historic Boston pub into apartments

Plans to convert an historic town centre pub into apartments have been submitted.

Brewery George Bateman and Son have applied to make the changes to The Britannia - a grade II-listed property - in Church Street, Boston.

“The proposed works include the conversion of the existing public house into residential accommodation through the careful subdivision of the ground floor and introduction of new street level doors and the creation of a glazed link to provide access to a proposed second floor self-contained apartment,” the design and access statement prepared by agent Robert Doughty Consultancy said.

“The application proposal is for a sympathetic and sensitive conversion from public house to apartments which is considered a more sustainable use for the building and will give the building a further lease of life thereby protecting this historic asset.”

A heritage impact statement suggests a hostelry has been on the site since approximately 1851.

The Brit - as it is known colloquially - is situated in central Boston along the River Haven, between St Botolph’s Chuch and The Assembly Rooms.
