Laundry assistant Rita Young, 82, still has ‘passion’ for job at Elmwood House Care Home in Boston after 23 years
An 82-year-old woman is determined to keep doing the job she loves — and vowed that ‘age is just a number’.
Rita Young started working at Elmwood House in Boston back in 2002 — and 23 years later she carries on loving what she does.
The laundry assistant says she wants to be a role model and inspire others to do what they enjoy.
As well as helping the laundry team at the Sleaford Road home, she dedicates herself to bringing happiness and warmth to the home, ensuring the well-being of everyone there.
Rita said: “Age is just a number and passion knows no bounds, fulfilment in life can come at any stage of life.
“I keep working because it keeps me going and I really love my job.”
She has been described as “a joy to see every day” and 92-year-old resident Eric Limb said: “It's not necessary for Rita to keep working, but if she likes it, she should carry on.
“She's a good worker – I like her and so does my family.”
Rita enjoys spending time with the residents, joining in with the fun events and parties whether it’s dancing or posing for pictures.
Liliana Barbu, the home manager, said: “Rita is a role model and inspiration to other women out there particularly by being the eldest staff member at Elmwood House.
“Rita always goes above and beyond in her job role to ensure everything is done to the best of her ability and she’s always willing to help others.
“Rita’s story shows that no matter what your age is, you can continue to do what you love and make a difference to others’ lives.”
