Tudor tower in Boston to be repaired following vandalism
A Tudor tower is set to undergo repair work following vandalism.
Hussey Tower is a familiar sight on the Boston skyline, but has recently been the victim of anti-social behaviour.
“The Grade II-listed medieval tower has been the victim of recent vandalism including the destruction of it's historic fabric and anti-social behaviour,” a Heritage Lincolnshire statement said.
“This has been reported as a heritage crime and measures will be taken against anyone caught harming the site.
“Following the recent vandalism, we applied for funding to help conserve this historic gem of Boston and are thrilled to announce things are looking brighter for Hussey Tower.”
A partnership with Boston Borough Council, Historic England and Boston College will see the organisations collaborating to repair the 15th century tower, which was built by Richard Benyngton, a collector of customs and excise in the town.
“As part of the project, heritage skills will be promoted alongside outreach with Boston College,” the statement added.
“This will coincide with talks and events open to all, promoting the unique Tudor history of the site and its importance to the town.
“Areas that have been damaged through anti-social behaviour will be repaired and conserved using historic craft methods allowing for open days to resume later this year.
“All to help spotlight the story of Hussey Tower and it's crucial place within historic Boston.”
Heritage Lincolnshire has been contacted for further information as the damage caused and costs were not included inb their statement.
