South Kesteven District Council promises redesign of Bourne signage which comes close to calling authority a ‘cesspit’

A council has confirmed it will replace signage at an access point after it was noted it humorously reads close to 'cesspit’.

South Kesteven District councillor Sue Woolley (Con) posted a selfie in which she was pointing at the Bourne Access Point’s missing letters, which currently read "South Kesteven A Cess Pint".

"Oh my goodness. Let's hope the 'n' isn't the next letter to drop off. Come on SK, let's get some quick repairs done," she posted on Facebook.

The post sparked some giggles from Coun Woolley’s followers, with Nicola Francis Clarke saying: “That’s so funny.”

Mark Tuohy commented: “Proper made me chuckle, Sue. Brilliant picture.”

It was quickly picked up by deputy council leader Richard Cleaver (Ind), cabinet member for property and public engagement, who asked if she had reported it.

Conservative Group leader Councillor Graham Jeal said the point was “that repairs in Bourne take forever for residents”.

“I wonder how long this will take,” he said.

Asked about the signage, a spokesperson for South Kesteven District Council said officers had been working with members to redesign the signage at the front of Bourne Corn Exchange.

“The new design has been confirmed and will have the venue name front and centre, along with clear details of all the services available inside,” he said.

“Arrangements are being made for the installation of the signage, which is expected to begin in the near future.”
