Early closure of Abbey Lawn in Bourne was a one-off as a result of antisocial behaviour

Volunteers who look after a recreation ground have explained the decision to close it early on Monday evening.

Gates to the Abbey Lawn in Bourne were closed ahead of schedule as a result of antisocial behaviour in the park.

Trust manager Nick Legge explained that on Monday a group of young people were “giving the security guy the run around”, forcing him to start locking up early.

A statement on Facebook said: “Due to antisocial behaviour we felt it best to close the park early to stop it from escalating. As always, the safety of the public is our main priority. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your continued support.”

Mr Legge said the early closure was a one-off but reminded visitors that the security guards start locking up at 8.45pm in order to complete the job by 9pm.
