Bourne Festival on the Wellhead Field attracts 10,000 visitors
A beer and music festival pulled in about 10,000 visitors over the weekend - despite some typically British weather.
Wrapped up on Friday and Saturday, and basking in sunshine on Sunday, people attending Bourne Festival helped to raise thousands of pounds for local good causes and charities while enjoying a choice of more than 100 beers and ciders.
Headline acts on the music stage were Peterborough funk and soul band Groove Cartell, and covers bands Dependant Variables, and Ultra 90s.
Ian Collins from Bourne Round Table, which organises the festival, said: “We had three great days and the turn out of people from the Bourne area and beyond was excellent. In fact, we had our best Sunday ever.
“It was great to see as we weren’t predicting such good results this year when we saw the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday.”
He added that the music went down just as well as the beer, with cover bands bringing plenty of familiar material people could sing along to, and a chance for bands to showcase some original music on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, there was a variety of food available, from pizzas, burgers and fish and chips, through to Indian and Mexican cuisine.
“There were stands representing some of our local grounds, including the football and rugby clubs, charities including Bourne2Shine,” said Ian.
“And we were grateful to Bourne United Charities which let us use The Wellhead Field, and to Bourne Ladies’ Circle, whose members volunteered at the event including running the gate.”
Money raised through this year’s festival will be announced and handed over later this summer. Organisers from Bourne Round Table have said Bourne Festival will be taking place again next year, on a date to be arranged.
