Bourne teenager completes Junior British OCR Championships at Belvoir Castle to raise money for a hospital in Nepal
A teenager has raised enough money to cure 100 children of leprosy by taking on a sponsored obstacle course.
Marika Timmins took part in the Junior British OCR Championships at Belvoir Castle near Grantham.
The 6.5km course featured 24 obstacles including cargo nets and monkey bars.
Marika raised £2,040 for the Anandaban Hospital in Nepal, where she was cared for as a baby before being adopted and starting a new life in the UK. The money will be used to treat people with leprosy.
The 14-year-old, who is a pupil at Bourne Grammar School, said: “Thank you so much to everyone who supported me. I had great fun even though it was really hard. Special thanks to the volunteers who ran with me and kept me going.
“I'm so happy that together we have cured 100 children.”
Marika recently visited the hospital with her mum Louise where she met some of the staff who cared for her and children who are currently being treated for leprosy.
