Dr Lindsay Taylor retires from The Hereward Practice in Bourne

A doctor is retiring from a town practice after 17 years caring for her patients.

Dr Lindsay Taylor joined the Hereward Practice in Exeter Street, Bourne, having qualified at the University of Southampton and after living and working previously in the UK and overseas.

She describes her time in Bourne as the highlight of her 33 years in the NHS, and she will leave at the end of the month having risen to be lead partner at the practice.

Dr Taylor said: “Sharing the lives and journeys of the patients of Bourne has been a privilege and is the heart of general practice. Being able to form real bonds with patients - the laughs and the tears - means I take with me so many memories.”

She added that she has enjoyed working in a close-knit team, which has helped them all through the ups and downs of general practice over the years

“I will miss being part of such a great team that really pulls together, especially in the hard times,” she said.

“General practice is a full time, often relentless commitment, and it is time for me to take a break.”

Dr Taylor, who turns 56 this month, is especially proud of the way the Hereward Practice has managed the covid pandemic, the significant rise in the demand for appointments, and improving patient access to care.

After a short break and spending more time with family, Dr Taylor will help to train and mentor medical students, and is hoping to be able to support women’s health initiatives.

Practice manager Tracey Mason said: “The whole team will miss Lindsay’s optimism and energy. She has been a fantastic colleague to work with and we wish her a very happy and restful retirement, doing whatever she loves and spending time with her family.”

GP partner Dr Tom Ashley-Norman added: “We all wish Lindsay a well-deserved, long and happy retirement.

“She has seen a lot of big changes over her tenure and she should leave feeling proud that she leaves a practice that is thriving - not in any small part due to her commitment, resilience and good nature.”
