Song penned by Bourne area family will be playing on BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s breakfast show

A family will be creating some exciting new Memories when their song is played on the radio next week.

Leroy Forde (61) wrote Memories with his son Matiao (11) and eight-year-old granddaughter Sophia Komora just before Christmas and next week it will be played on rotation on the BBC Radio Lincolnshire Breakfast show.

The trio recorded the track, which was inspired by Bourne youngster Sophia’s holiday memories, earlier this year which was sent into BBC Introducing by Leroy and was played on Thursday last week.

Singer songwriter Leroy, who has the stage name Irie White and lives in Morton, said he was really proud of the song - which Sophia takes lead vocals supported by Matiao and her grandfather.

Leroy, who had a number one in Germany, said: “The song is just so sweet and made ever sweeter with Sophia’s vocals. Everyone has memories of going on holiday so people can relate to the song and it is a nice summer sound.

“We went to the beach to record a video and we have put that on TikTok.

“We are really going to work at it and take it as far as we can.”

The song was written on December 17 during a session in which Leroy was trying to teach Sophia about songwriting and they were helped by Matiao.

Later, they went into the studio to record a demo in under an hour which was then sent to BBC Introducing.

Leroy said: “It is a great feeling - they are really chuffed.”

Sophia will be joining her grandfather on stage during his show at the Sandcastle in Skegness on Sunday.
