Your News: Activities galore at Castle Head

On Monday 18th May, sixty three pupils from Year 5 embarked on a four day residential trip to Castle Head Field Studies Centre in Cumbria.

It began with a very early morning meeting at school at 7:30 but that certainly didn’t dampen the excitement or high spirits of the children.

After a long bus journey north, we all arrived at the centre for four days and three nights of excitement away from home.

This Eco-adventure gave the pupils the opportunity to appreciate their geographical environment and think about sustainability whilst working to overcome personal challenges.

While away, the pupils were put into teams and they all worked brilliantly together, making new and cementing current friendships.

The children took part in activities such as a rock traverse, ghyll scrambling, canoeing and a river study which linked in with the water topic we had been studying at school.

All of these activities offered a new challenge and built the children’s communication and team work skills.

There was not one pupil who did not attempt all of the tasks no matter how daunting they appeared. While we were away we were lucky enough to have some glorious sunshine.

Each and every child benefitted from the experience and had a fantastic time, pushing themselves to do things they may not otherwise have had the chance to do and the teamwork displayed by all pupils was a credit to Bourne Abbey.
