Bourne Town beat Histon in the United Counties League Knock-Out Cup

Bourne booked their place in the quarter-finals of the United Counties League KO Cup after victory at Histon on Saturday.

Top scorer Zac Allen netted twice with Robbie Ellis also on target as the Wakes ran out 3-1 winners away at their United Counties League Premier Division South hosts.

Striker James Hill-Seekings also made his first competitive appearance of the campaign following a pre-season injury as a second half substitute to cap another good day for the Wakes.

Both sides had chances in the opening exchanges with Will Bird forcing a decent save from the home goalkeeper before Bourne broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark.

Bird found Allen with a through ball and he found Ellis in the penalty area to volley home the opening goal.

It gave Bourne the advantage to take into half-time and they doubled their lead 13 minutes after the break as Allen got in on the goalscoring act by firing home a free-kick from the edge of the area.

Histon reduced the arrears four minutes later when Joe Sutton scored from the penalty spot following a foul by Richard Jones.

But Allen restored Bourne's two-goal advantage in the 74th minute with his second goal of the game as he rounded the keeper to score after Aaron Eyett and Ellis had linked well to secure their place in the last eight.

Bourne goalkeeper Dan Swan made a crucial save late on to deny Histon any hope of getting back into the contest before Hill-Seekings got some valuable minutes under his belt as the Wakes saw out the remainder of the contest.

It ensured a winning start to a crucial month of matches for the Wakes who have two other cup ties and four vital league games in the coming weeks.

After Saturday's victory in the League KO Cup, attention now turns to this weekend's FA Vase tie at Market Drayton.

The Wakes then return to league action on Wednesday, November 13, with a derby date against Deeping.

That is scheduled to be the first match at the Abbey Lawn following the changing room refurbishment project that has seen Bourne play all of their games away from home since early September.

They then travel to table-topping Eastwood on Saturday, November 16, before visiting Pinchbeck United in the quarter-finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy three days later.

They complete the month with an away match at Belper United on November 23 before hosting Melton Town seven days later at the Abbey Lawn.
