Reaction from Bourne Town manager Michael Goode after their victory over Deeping Rangers
Manager Michael Goode was 'absolutely delighted' for everyone connected to Bourne Town Football Club after they made a winning return to the Abbey Lawn on Wednesday night.
The Wakes had clocked up nearly 1,200 miles on the road in their 66-day sabbatical from the JJ Mac Stadium due to a changing room refurbishment project.
Work was completed this week on the scheme that has revamped all of the changing rooms for both players and match officials, as well as adding a ladies facility for female referees and assistants.
The club has successfully applied for grants with the Len Pick Trust and Bourne United Charities contributing around three-quarters of the total cost.
And the Wakes players then duly delivered on the pitch as they ran out 3-0 winners against neighbours Deeping Rangers in front of a crowd of 577.
Goode said: "I am absolutely delighted for everyone connected to the club for all the hard work that the chairman and committee have put in.
"All of the players really appreciate it. We've got a really good facility now and we're also playing some good stuff on the pitch.
"I thought we were excellent and the three goals that we scored were brilliantly worked."
Martin Tudosa gave Bourne a first half lead that was increased after the break with goals from Zak Munton and Henry Dunn.
The victory moved Bourne back into third place in the United Counties League Premier Division North standings ahead of Saturday's trip to table-topping Eastwood CFC.
Goode added: "All in all, it was a fantastic night for the club and the team.
"We've won five games on the bounce now in what is a tough run of fixtures for us.
"It started at Histon where we showed something that we haven't before and then last weekend we had to dig in after being 1-0 down.
"I always felt we were in control against Deeping and, although the second goal was crucial, we were always going to create something.
"It was also important to keep a clean sheet because we needed that. We made better decisions than we did on Saturday.
"We haven't played what you could call brilliantly at home yet this season but I felt we played really well against a side that could always hurt you."
After Saturday's trip to Eastwood, Bourne have a Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tie on Tuesday night at Pinchbeck United.
