Bourne Town boss Michael Goode has been named United Counties League manager of the season

Bourne Town boss Michael Goode has been named United Counties League manager of the season.

Goode was awarded the accolade at the league's annual meeting held over the weekend.

He led the Wakes to promotion to step four for the first time in the club's history after winning the Premier Division North play-off final.

Bourne also enjoyed a record-breaking club run in the FA Vase last season and reached the quarter-finals before losing to AFC Whyteleafe.

The former Deeping Rangers boss also helped the Wakes reach the final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy and the latter stages of the United Counties League Cup.

Two key defenders from last season's promotion-winning squad have pledged their future to Bourne ahead of the new Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Brad Marshall and Richard Jones were both part of a rearguard that had the joint best defensive record in their division last term.

Marshall also netted the equalising goal in the play-off final and was voted supporters' player and the players' player of the season.

Jones has helped Bourne bag back-to-back promotions after returning to the club where he started his career following spells with Blackstones, Stamford, Boston United and Peterborough Sports.

Bourne have also boosted their defensive ranks by signing former Spalding player Connor Peters.

Peters is a former Peterborough United Under 21s player who spent last season playing for the Gibraltar Lions.

Pinchbeck United's return to the United Counties League was also confirmed at the annual meeting on Saturday.

The Knights played in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League last season while ground-sharing at the Sir Halley Stewart.

They will be playing their home games at Sleaford Town's Elsaforde Park ground this season which has moved them back into the geographical area which the United Counties League covers.

Pinchbeck will play in a 23-team division which also includes Clifton All Whites, Clipstone, Coalville, Dronfield, Dunkirk, FCV Grace Dieu, Gedling Miners Welfare, Holwell, Pinxton, Radford, Rainworth, Retford, Retford United, Sandiacre, Shirebrook, Sleaford, South Normanton, Southwell, Stapleford, Staveley, Swallownest and West Bridgford.

The Knights have been drawn at home to Premier Division South side Yaxley in the preliminary round of the SGD League Knockout Cup.
