Bourne Town take on Boston Town in the United Counties League Premier Division North play-off final

Manager Michael Goode is hoping that Bourne Town can make the most of having home advantage in their quest for promotion from the United Counties League.

The Wakes host Boston Town in the Premier Division North play-off final at the JJ Mac Stadium on Saturday.

Victory for Bourne would elevate them to step four of the non-league pyramid for the first time in the club's history.

It would come just 12 months after the Wakes lifted the Division One title and cap a rapid rise for a club who have transformed their fortunes both on and off the pitch.

They enjoyed a club record-breaking run in the FA Vase this season and have been among the best supported sides at step five with another bumper turn-out expected for Saturday's showdown.

Goode said: "I'm delighted for everyone in Bourne that we've got that next game at home.

"It will be a really tough game because Boston are the form team in the league.

"We're a good side though and we'll have home advantage in front of hopefully more than 1,000 people.

"We're coming off the back of arguably our best or second best performance of the season.

"When we start to tick, we're a dangerous side but we know that Boston are a good team as well."

The Wakes have completed a league double over the Poachers this season with 1-0 wins in both meetings courtesy of goals from Zac Allen and Will Bird.

Allen, despite missing a number of weeks of the season due to injury, is among the division's leading marksmen along with Boston's Harry Limb.

Limb scored for the Poachers in their 2-1 semi-final success at Eastwood CFC on Saturday while Allen was on target from the penalty for Bourne in their 4-0 victory over AFC Mansfield where manager Goode was full of praise for a fine all-round performance from his side.

He commented: "I thought we were absolutely brilliant.

"We set our stall out to go hard from the first whistle and we set our own tempo because we knew that we had to do that in front of our own fans.

"We did it really well and just kept going from there. We dominated the midfield and we've got good legs up top who can score.

"We were solid at the back and we were just excellent all over the park.

"It was a great effort and I was so pleased for the fans and also the players because they've had a really long season.

"We've had some big games which we've come through and I think that helped us.

"It was a top performance and we've had players playing really well for the last few weeks and they've just gone up to another level which means we're a good place ready for Saturday.

"Both ourselves and Boston know each other very closely though and it's bound to be another tight game."

Victory for the Wakes is likely to see Bourne placed in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division for next season.

Blackstones also have a play-off final on Saturday as they travel to Retford FC in the Division One showpiece match.

The Stamford side will be looking to repeat their successful trip to Nottinghamshire last weekend where they defeated Retford United in the semi-final.

Kieran Duffy-Weekes, Will Bestwick and Eddie Thorpe netted the goals for Stones in their 3-0 away win.

They will be bidding to return to step five of the non-league pyramid for the first time in more than a decade following their relegation from the United Counties League Premier Division in 2013.
