Bourne Town beat Market Drayton Town in the FA Vase
A quick-fire late three-goal salvo kept Bourne Town on the road to Wembley after victory in the FA Vase on Saturday.
The Wakes had found themselves trailing by one goal to Market Drayton Town at half-time in their second round clash.
However, a triple strike within the space of six minutes booked Bourne's place in the last 64 of the national competition.
It ensured that a long trip to Shropshire was worthwhile for the Wakes who took two coach-loads of supporters to the tie that kicked-off at the earlier time of 2pm due to the floodlights being upgraded at Market Drayton's Greenfields ground.
Bourne boss Michael Goode said: "It was an early start which made it a really long day but it was well worth it in the end.
"It was a good day and, to have around 90 or 100 fans travelling to support you, was fantastic. It was a huge following and I was really pleased for them as well."
The tie had all the hallmarks of a tricky test for the Wakes against a home side who have featured at step four of the non-league pyramid for a number of seasons.
The Gingerbread Men also had an undefeated home record after finding their form in recent weeks following a slow start to their North West Counties League Division One South season.
Bourne were playing up the slope in the first half and began brightly with some high intensity in the opening 15 minutes.
Chances were in short supply for both sides though with Bourne goalkeeper Dan Swan making a smart reflex save to keep the hosts at bay on his 100th appearance for the Wakes.
Drayton then took the lead on the stroke of half-time with a contentious goal that Bourne felt should have been ruled out for offside.
With the incline in their favour after the break, Bourne started to impose themselves on the game with Will Bird shooting just shooting over from outside the area.
Zak Munton and Bird both had shots saved by the home goalkeeper who then clawed away a trademark free-kick from Zac Allen.
The hosts had another effort disallowed for offside before Bourne finished with a flourish with three goals in the final nine minutes.
Robbie Ellis got them back on level terms when he headed home a pinpoint free-kick from Munton.
The Wakes then took the lead four minutes later when Brad Marshall headed home from another set piece despite the home goalkeeper's valiant effort to prevent the ball from crossing the line.
A third goal followed a minute later to secure Bourne's place in the next round as they broke quickly with Drayton pushing for an equaliser and Allen lifted a sublime lob over the advancing custodian.
Goode added: "We went really hard at it in the second half and to score three goals in six minutes is a measure of where we are.
"We were fairly solid defensively and limited them to a couple of chances. We've got a bit of steel about us now and our fitness also came through.
"We're also getting that bit of know-how now and we've got lads who can play on the counter-attack when we're away from home.
"If you can create and build a bit of pressure then obviously our set piece delivery and the goals that we're scoring will always give us a chance.
"The result was good because Market Drayton are a decent side and it's brilliant for the whole club to have progressed."
Bourne return to United Counties League Premier Division North action on Wednesday night with a home match against neighbours Deeping Rangers (7.45pm).
