Bourne Town Reserves beat Polonia in the Peterborough and District League

Bourne Town Reserves bounced back from their first defeat of the Peterborough League campaign by making a rapid return to winning ways on Saturday.

The Wakes were 6-1 home winners over Peterborough Polonia in their Division Two tussle at the JJ Mac Stadium.

Bourne started brightly by dominating possession and providing pressure on the Polonia goal.

From a well delivered Matthew Bills free-kick into the box, Nathan Pearson finished close in to give his side the lead.

The second goal soon followed as Mike Hasler played a ball to Jake Dilley who headed into the path of Jamie Moore to finish close in.

For the second part of the first half, the Wakes seemed to go through the motions despite James Ferrow and Nathan Bills both going close but lacking a clinical finish.

The fluidity of play, hard work and desire seemed to fizzle away into complacency.

Careless defending as a team followed with needless pushes in the back, jumping into tackles, instead of standing up and shadowing players away from goal.

Polonia deservedly got themselves back in the game on the half-hour mark with a superb finish from Karol Narojczyk to the left of Ben Asplin in the Wakes goal.

Against the run of play, with the half coming to an end, Ferrow found Pearson in the box who skilfully overhead kicked for his second goal of the game and the team's third.

Despite the half-time lead, there was disappointment from the management team regarding the perceived reduction in work rate and desire during the latter part of the first period.

The players responded superbly and arguably the best move of the game started down the left with Dan Henson in possession.

He played a ball to Nathan Bills who went on a positive run and his sublime pass found Pearson in the box who side-stepped the on-rushing keeper to finish in the net for an excellent hat trick.

At this point the Wakes were totally dominant as they were for most part of the half.

A Nathan Bills run down the right led to his cross finding Jake Dilley, up from right back, who sent a great header goal bound only for the keeper to make a fine save.

The fifth goal soon followed though as a Matthew Bills in-swinging corner found its way into the net.

At the other end Polonia had a couple of chances.

Having gone past Asplin, a superb last ditch tackle by Jamie Moore prevented a potential goalbound effort and then on a separate occasion a superb save from the Bourne goalkeeper denied the visitors.

The icing on an excellent second half performance was a ball played through from Ryan Baxter to Liam Bedford who finished superbly.

The two sides meet again on Saturday at Elsea Park in the second round of the Peterborough Challenge Cup.
